A Louis XV armoire is a French antique with many unique features. This double curved top with four cupboard doors has a marquierie of two flowers and initials. It has three drawers on the top and four on the bottom. It has bombe corner openings and is mounted on gilt bronze supports. The cylinder secretary has two sliding compartments and three secret drawers under the top. This type of cabinet is extremely rare and is the most coveted of its kind.
This cabinet was used for a variety of purposes and was a favourite of kings. Its rounded shape makes it ideal for storing documents and other private papers. The inside of the cabinet has a small mirror and a carved floral motif. This style was particularly popular in the French Empire. There are also exceptional examples of provincial rustic furniture. They often have a black leather covering and are often made of wrought iron.
The corner cupboard was originally fitted with tapestries. The full-height panel from the Louis XV period was originally intended. It also featured numerous motifs, including seven medallions representing the Kings seven children. The furniture inside the cupboard included a chest of drawers by Antoine-Robert Gaudreaus delivered in 1739. Other items in the room included an American Independence candelabra and a cylinder secretary.
